VILLA MACAW BED & AND BREAKFAST

Situated in the Progresso Heights enclosed community of north-east Belize, overlooking the Cocos Lagoon, some six miles by shallow river to the Caribbean, Villa Macaw offers the potential investor or passing traveler a relaxing, quiet home, a place to unwind from the faster moving world, amid an abundance of banana trees, avocado, and maturing lime, coconut, orange, mango trees. Whether relaxing on the west or south verandas or in a swing or hammock in the palapa, enjoying a drink, watching a tropical bird, or pursuing your own light reading, you will enjoy the change.

Villa Macaw was the first residence constructed in Progresso Heights in 2005 (see http://www.progressoheights.com/) as a vacation home by Dr. Richard P. Stevens, former professor at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and an investor in Belize since 1996.

Villa Macaw is today cared for and operated as a bed and breakfast by the family of Mr. and Mrs. Estilito Carlos, of nearby Progresso Village. In large part Villa Macaw therefore is in many ways an extension of the local culture of a Belizian community and has no pretensions to be a duplicate of more cosmopolitan lifestyles. The Carlos family will welcome the opportunity to introduce you to Progresso Village with its multi-cultural roots dating back well over a century planted as it is in the sugar growing northern belt of Belize.

Persons with transport might also wish to visit the Mennonite village of Little Belize or the seaside towns of Copper Bank and Sarteneja. In this northern region both English and Spanish are widely spoken. In brief, Villa Macaw can serve you well as your base not only for exploring the local region but for a day trip flight to San Pedro. A fast speed boat leaves Corozal in early morning and returns in mid to late afternoon. A few hours lazing on the white sand beach while “parked” at a beach front restaurant/bar makes for a memorable interlude.

Remember that there is no need to change American dollars to Belize currency since they are convertible at 2 Belize to 1 USA. Credit cards can be used at larger stores in Orange Walk and Corozal but Villa Macaw has no credit card facility and payment must be made in cash.

SEASON/WEATHER
The rainy season in Belize usually runs from July into November. Sometimes the rains and winds can be strong and hurricanes, although infrequent, occasionally strike Belize. Raincoats and umbrellas are in demand during this season. However, rains are usually of short duration, sometimes less than an hour followed by bright sunshine. Adaptability is key to enjoying your Belize experience as it is in all Caribbean and Central American countries.

LANGUAGE

With English as the national language, and Spanish a second tongue, the typical visitor has no problem with communication.
Mr. and Mrs. Estilito Carlos and family will make every effort to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable.

TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM PROGRESSO HEIGHTS AND VILLA MACAW
Chetumal Bus Station and Airport
Belize City International Airport and City Airport
Cruise Ship Depot, Belize City

By air to Cancun/onward by bus and pickup service

Some visitors prefer to fly into Belize and rent a car at the international airport and proceed north to Orange Walk and some fifteen miles further on into Progresso Heights. Others prefer to fly into Cancun and take the express ADO bus service which was inaugurated in October 2011 with service to Belize. This service departs daily from Cancun, with return to Cancun each evening with stops/pickup permitted only in Corozal, Orange Walk and Belize City. It would seem that the trip from Cancun city to Corozal would be about six hours. Accordingly, prospective visitors to Progresso Heights are able to contact Mr. Carlos by email or phone for pickup arrangement at any of these stations. Pickup can also be arranged for those arriving at Chetumal airport in Mexico.
